Nestled on over 1300 acres of land, this massive park is free to the public thanks to a donation by the children of Charles Elliott Perkins. This entire site was once owned privately by Mr. Perkins, but after his death it was handed over to the city of Colorado Springs for educational and recreational purposes and for public use. The family felt that everyone should have access to this magical place so you too could enjoy the wonders the park has to offer.

Best known for its iconic red-sandstone rock formations, the Park comprises 21 miles worth of trails and ample opportunity for technical rock climbing and horseback riding. You not only will have amazing views of these towering red giants from any vantage point in the park but you also will have the backdrop of Pikes Peak in the background allowing for perfect picture opportunities.
We did see many people rock climbing but please leave that to the professionals. You must have a permit to climb and proper gear on hand as well. The park also boasts many learning opportunities through educational programs for the kids, a theater which runs a video every 20 minutes or so, and through the many knowledgeable park rangers and staff. There is a visitors center and cafe by the parking lot if you want to grab a brochure or map, or if you need a quick bite to eat either before or after all that walking around.
We definitely enjoyed ourselves here and being so close to these giant rock formations was quite the site. Due to the ample space and many miles of trails we were able to take our time walking throughout the grounds which allowed us to really soak in our surroundings which was extremely relaxing. All of the trails are flat so this would definitely be an easy hike for all ages.
If you make your way to the Garden of The Gods in the future, take your time and soak in your surroundings. Since it’s free there is not much planning needed. Just park, make your way down to the trails, and enjoy the scenery!
